Our Model

Risk-Need-Responsivity

At Clear Sky Counseling Services, PLLC, we understand the importance of adhering to the “Risk-Need-Responsivity Model” developed by James Bonta, Donald A. Andrews, and Paul Gendreau in 1990. Together they were able to summarize the major tenets for effective interventions with justice-involved individuals.

Below we briefly describe the tenents of this model:

Risk principle: Match the level of service to the offender’s risk to reoffend.
Need principle: Assess criminogenic needs and target them in treatment.
Responsivity principle: Maximize the offender’s ability to learn from rehabilitative interventions, tailoring the intervention to the client’s learning style, motivation, abilities, and strengths.
